Lucy Proud graduated from Whitehouse Institute of Design in 2003 with a graduate diploma in fashion design. While studying at Whitehouse Institute of Design, Lucy wanted to find out which area of design would gratify her the most. In that area, she wanted to develop her creative skills and she wanted to excel at what she did.
She found, during her studies, that she was good at what she did, but that there was a lot for her left to learn. In a working environment, she fine tuned her skills and learned more about the industry.
After leaving Whitehouse Institute of Design, Lucy worked at Tea Rose, a bridal and event wear design company, as a designer and co-manager of the boutique. She designed clothes tailored specifically to the client and worked with a variety of stylists.
Following her love for adventure, Lucy traveled Europe, where she was inspired by the many cultures and different people to start her own design business. She started out as a designer for women’s wear, having a range in skirts, tops, jackets, pants and dresses, while she now also designs dresses and creates individually hand painted garments.
In her design business, Lucy doesn’t necessarily follow the fashion trends of the moment, as long as her garments are beautiful and wearable.
With experience in the design business, Lucy now knows that it is hard work and disappointment along the way, but eventually, it is all worth it. Thanking Whitehouse Institute of Design for letting her know early on in the game that the industry really is all about hard work, she is very happy with having been to school there, because of the good preparation it gave her.
Lucy’s designs are very personal, as she draws and designs things depending on the mood she is in. Drawing inspiration from the things around her, she sees designs in everything, from flowers and nature to buildings and architecture.
