borrowing information

general information

All students may borrow overnight.

Items are due back by 5pm the following day.

All students may only have four items - 2 books and 2 magazines - out at a time.

Students are require their student ID card to borrow. 

Returns/Renewals

Two remote access renewals are permitted per item, after this, students must return the item to the library to renew it further.

How to Renew 'remotely':

A remote renewal means that you can renew your borrowed item online through the library catalogue without having to bring it back into the library.

Remote renewals are restricted by your normal borrowing regulations.

Follow the instructions below to perform a remote renewal:

  1. Open the library catalogue
  2. Select "Sign-in" - located at the top left of the page
  3. Your username is the letters "WI" followed by your student number, the password is your student number
  4. When you press Log On the catalogue will return to the original homepage
  5. Select "User" - located at the top left of the page, where "Sign-in" was - your virtual "Library Card" and your full name will now appear on screen.
  6. Click on the number next to Loans - it will be the number of items out on your card - this will bring up a list of items that you currently have a loan
  7. If you only wish to renew some of the items, select them by clicking on the box next to the item and once you have checked all the items you want to renew, click "Renew Selected" in the menu at the top of the page
  8. If you wish to renew all items click "Renew All" in the menu at the top of the page
  9. Click on "Sign-Out" at the top left of the page when you are finished renewing your books - if you have any problems email library@whitehouse-design.edu.au

Collections

The John Henry Library is organised by the Dewey Decimal System. Each item in the library has a call number which can be used to determine the item’s location. Items in the library are also organised in collections. Students need to take note of the collection that the item resides in so that they can locate the item. Below is a list of collections in the John Henry Library:

Main

The main collection is the largest collection in the library. It is available to all students with their normal borrowing restrictions. 

Serials

The serials collection contains all the magazines/ periodicals that the John Henry Library subscribes to. Students cannot remove current editions from the library but may borrow back dated editions as per their normal borrowing regulations. For a listing of magazines specific to each course area, please refer to the catalogue or the course research guides

Reserve

Items in the reserve collection can be used in the library only. They are not to be removed from the library by students under any circumstances. A teacher may request an item be placed in the reserve collection so that all students can gain equal access to it. 

Reference

The reference collection is for use in the library only and cannot be borrowed. It includes materials such as encyclopedias, atlases, dictionaries, manuals etc.

AV-Videos

The video collection is available for staff use only. 

AV-CDs

The CD collection contains CD-ROMs and is available for student use on the library computers only.

Teaching Collection

Teaching collection is available for staff use only.
