In conjunction with Designex, Abet Laminati, Forbo, Xanita and Sofaworks, the first year interior design students have been offered a chance enter a competition for the best stand design.
The design will be built for the Designex event 10th-12th April 2008. The Designex event is a prestigious event within the design industries calendar and is frequented by thousands of the nation's best architects and interior designers.
The selected winning group will receive the ultimate prize of having their work constructed for the Designex event, as well as media coverage in the Designex catalogue, website etc. Also the four winning students will receive tickets to the IDA awards celebratory dinner to be held at the Hilton early next year.
Working in groups of four, and as part of their Interior Design and Decoration unit, students were asked to explore the 3 products and their sustainable qualities in order to design a bookshop for 500-1000 sustainable books.
After an amazing panel presentation of stand and detail models with beautiful presentation boards, the design jury selected the winning group based on design and innovation whilst also taking into consideration buildability and cost.
Congratulations to the winning team, which consisted of Jariya Akaramahesak, Jonathan Fleming, Joanne Ibrahim and Laura O'Sullivan.
Next year it is then envisioned that the class continue to participate in the project management of the project where the winning design will be produced for the Designex event.
Well done to the first years and what an exciting project to look forward to!
