Lighting the way with illuminated performance garments by Alexandra Chambers

, Master of Design

Alexandra Chambers has worked simultaneously in Fashion and costume over the last 16 years. She has developed her skills in pattern making, construction and design working for both individuals and professional companies in a variety of fields including dance, theatre and circus. She runs her own alternative fashion label Clockwork Butterfly and has been featured internationally in exhibitions, fashion parades, magazines, newspapers and productions. She was recently profiled in the Spring Edition of OzArts Magazine

Her Masters research project explores the theme of Celestial Bodies and combines the beautiful imperfections of traditional hand finishing with silk treated with light sensitive ink and enhanced with conductive wire. This project has developed into a study of the integration of modern light technology into the areas of Fashion, Costume and Wearable Art in order to discover the boundaries between these areas and where they intersect.

Her work is based on a collaboration with Teardrop Studios (photography) with modelling by Silhouettê d'Amour and Underground Media (Film) featuring aerial performance by Merryn Louise.
